I have a lot of books to choose from and a system that means I can read them in some order and get them back to the library without incurring any fines. Sometimes I get distracted though. Tithe is one of those books that has the power to distract me. My family is lucky that I managed to get dinner made, but I think that is all they can expect today.
'Tithe is a 'modern faeire tale'. Well that is what is written on the front cover and it's very correct.
Kaye, after a nomadic life with her mother travelling around following various bands, has returned to her childhood home. She is sensing changes and looks for the faerie friends she had when she was young. Instead she meets and saves a faerie called Roiben. She is unaware that she herself is one of the faeries, specifically a pixie that has been hidden behind a intricate glamour. She is unwittingly sacrificed as a 'tithe' so that the solitary folk can enjoy 7 years of freedom. Of course things do go wrong and she needs to make the choice to save herself and her friends that have been caught up in the machinations of both the Unseelie and Seelie Courts.
Holly Black is a fantastic writer. This book sucked me in go to whoa. There is always something around the corner and you are on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen next or who will betray whom. Read and enjoy!!!
